Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in Jordan

About Latvia
An independent parliamentary republic and one of the three Baltic states. The country is situated on the north-eastern shore of the Baltic Sea, between Estonia and Lithuania. Latvia has borders with Estonia, Russia, Belarus, and Lithuania. It has linguistic links with Lithuania to the south, and historical and religious ties with Estonia to the north.
Riga is the capital, the largest city in the three Baltic states and home to one third of Latvia's entire population. For centuries Latvia was primarily an agricultural country, with seafaring, fishing, and forestry as other important economic factors.
The national flag of Latvia was used by independent Latvia from 1918 until the country was occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940. Its use was suppressed during Soviet rule. On 27 February 1990, shortly before the country regained its independence, the Latvian government re-adopted the traditional red-white-red flag.
